Costs go up again

Our tough economic times got a little more difficult on 1 July with a host of small but collectively significant cost rises kicking in.

The Fair Work Commission’s decision to increase modern award wages by 5.75 percent has substantially increased labour costs for many small businesses.

The legislated increase in superannuation contributions (from 10.5 percent to 11 percent) will add to that.

Rises in motorway tolls vary from state to state.

There is good news with the Federal Government announcing a six-month, 50 percent reduction in fuel excise for diesel used in eligible trucks on public roads from 20.5 cents per litre to 18.9 cents, to offset the high price of diesel and rise in the Road User Charge (RUC).
