Hunter Valley goes into 7 day lockdown

The NSW Government has announced that the Hunter Valley region will go into a seven day lockdown from 5.00pm Thursday 5 August 2021 until midnight Thursday 12 August 2021, similar to what happened in the Orange region.

The local government areas that will be impacted by the lockdown are Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, Cessnock, Dungog, Singleton and Muswellbrook.

It is anticipated that the restrictions applying in the above eight local government areas will be exactly the same as exists in Greater Sydney, that is people can leave their home for the essential reasons which include:

  • obtain food or other goods and services
    • in your local government area, within 10km of your home, if reasonably practicable
    • for the personal needs of the household or for other household purposes (including pets)
    • for vulnerable people
    • only one person per household may leave the home to obtain food or other goods and services each day (you may take a dependent person with you if that person cannot be left at home on their own).
  • leave home to go to work if
  • leave home for education if it is not possible to do it at home
  • exercise and take outdoor recreation within your local government area or up to 10km from your home.
  • go out for medical or caring reasons, including obtaining a COVID-19 vaccination.

Similarly, it is expected that residents will not be able to work outside of these LGAs unless they are on the authorised workers list.

Additional Truck Friendly Victorian COVID Testing sites for Interstate Truck Drivers:

It is still a requirement for interstate truck drivers to have a COVID-19 test every three days when entering Victoria from interstate.

To assist these drivers to be able to gain an asymptomatic as easily as possible the Victorian Government have established a third roadside testing station specifically for interstate truck drivers.

The new site is located at Longwarry – Inbound.

It is at the vehicle rest stop, 2 kilometres before Longwarry township about 1 hour out from Dandenong on the inbound side of the road.

The site will be open from 4.00pm to 4.00am seven days a week.

We urge that this site be used by interstate drivers using the Princes Highway.

The other heavy vehicle testing sites at Kal Kallo and Broadford on the Hume Highway remain open from 6.00pm to 6.00am every day.
