New oversize load conditions for Toowoomba Bypass

From 20 July 2020, new conditions will be in place for oversize loads on the Toowoomba Bypass.

These conditions are being introduced to ensure the movement of oversize loads are managed in a safe and efficient way, minimising the impact to operators whilst maintaining network efficiency for all road users.

Loads between 5.5m-7.0m in width and less than 102.5 tonnes

  • At least 1 hour prior to travel on the Toowoomba Bypass, you must contact Broadspectrum on 07 4593 0001.
  • You must pull over at regular intervals to allow traffic to pass.

Loads between 5.5m-7.0m in width and greater than 102.5 tonnes

  • Travel is only permitted between 8pm and 5am.
  • At least 1 hour prior to travel on the Toowoomba Bypass, you must contact Broadspectrum on 07 4593 0001.
  • You must pull over at regular intervals to allow traffic to pass.

Loads exceeding 7.0m in width

  • Travel is only permitted between 8pm and 5am.
  • At least 1 hour prior to travel on the Toowoomba Bypass, you must contact Broadspectrum on 07 4593 0001.
  • While in transit, Broadspectrum will communicate with the driver, pilot and Queensland Police escorts on UHF Channel 40. If traffic builds up, you will be required to stop at the next available stopping bay to allow traffic to pass.

Traffic Management Plan
You must submit a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) with any access application for loads exceeding 8.0m in width, 5.4m in height or 45m in length. Access applications will not be assessed without a TMP. You can download a detailed TMP template from the Queensland Police website.
