With Christmas fast approaching it’s getting to that time of year again where there are almost as many public holidays in the calendar as there are Christmas cards arriving on your doorstep.

This Information Bulletin is to inform members of the dates of the national and State/Territory-wide full day and part day public holidays for the Christmas and New Year Period 2020/21.

If you are planning a seasonal shutdown of your business, now is a good time to confirm arrangements with your team and clarify any leave entitlements or requirements to take unpaid leave if employees have insufficient leave accrued. There are different requirements under each award that detail the minimum notice period that you are required to provide to your employees.

If you are unsure as whether you can request an employee to work a public holiday, or what you should be paying an employee whether they are working or not working on a public holiday, members can access NatRoad’s Factsheet: Public Holidays. Members should check the applicable award, or their enterprise agreement, to confirm their employees’ entitlements.
