The National Road Transport Association is congratulating the New South Wales Government for responding to heavy vehicle industry calls for a dedicated 24-hour testing facility for trucks in Sydney.
“NatRoad is right behind measures like these that recognise the needs of the heavy vehicle industry and urges other states to follow suit,” said CEO Warren Clark.
“Ministers Paul Toole and Andrew Constance have listened and acted and locating a facility at Wetherill Park in Sydney’s south-west will be a relief for many operators.
“Queensland Roads Minister Mark Bailey has done similar with his opening of a 24-hour testing site near Toowoomba so it’s over to South Australia and Victoria.
“Three-day testing requirements need to be accompanied by dedicated support that allows drivers to get swabbed outside office hours.
“We remain hopeful that National Cabinet will consider standardised border pass measures when it meets today and we want to see regulatory barriers removed to the use of rapid antigen testing kits.
“The bottom line is that efficient movement of heavy vehicles is essential to keeping communities functioning.”
