The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has adviced that, following strengthening works and subsequent structural inspections of the flyover, road access restrictions for heavy vehicles will be eased, effective 17 December 2020.
Road access conditions for heavy vehicles have been in effect on the Gateway Motorway flyover in Bald Hills since 1 September 2019 in order to maintain ongoing safety for all road users.
Heavy vehicles not requiring a permit may now travel unrestricted, while those requiring a permit must continue to comply with the conditions of their permit.
The following vehicles have unrestricted access:
- Heavy vehicle with GCM greater than 4.5t and up to 68.5t including buses, prime mover semi-trailers and b-doubles travelling at Higher Mass Limits.
- Class 3 vehicles travelling under the Mass Export Management Scheme and/or the Mass Import Management Scheme.
- Category IAP1 and Category IAP2 Special Purpose Vehicles.
- Vehicles operating under the following Notices:
- Multi-State Class 1 Load Carrying Vehicles Mass Exemption Notice 2020
- National Class 1 Agricultural Vehicle and Combination Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice 2020
- National Class 1 Special Purpose Vehicle Notice 2020
- Queensland Class 1 Special Purpose Combination Mass & Dimension Exemption Notice 2019.
The following vehicles must travel over the Gateway Arterial Flyover with the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle on the centreline of the structure across the two lanes at a speed not exceeding the signed speed limit and must be escorted by a minimum of 1 pilot at the rear.
- Class 1 oversize, overmass (OSOM) low loader combination with a GCM greater than 59.5t and up to 102.5t, consisting of:
- a prime mover
- with or without a dolly
- 3, 4 or 5 axle low loader
- minimum ‘A’ dimension of 6m (measured from the rear axle of the drive axle group (or dolly where used) to the first axle of the low loader).
- Class 1 OSOM platform combinations with GCM greater than 59.5 and up to 167 tonnes; consisting of:
- a prime mover
- with or without a dolly
- no more than 10 rows
- no more than 12 tonne per row
- minimum ground contact width of 3.6m
- minimum ‘A’ dimension of 6m (measured from the rear axle of the drive axle group (or dolly where used) to the first axle of the platform).
All other heavy vehicles must submit a permit application via the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator for assessment by TMR prior to travel.
Please be aware that civil works are continuing for the flyover structure and temporary changed traffic conditions may still be present at various times until late 2020.
