NatRoad Members active in the agricultural sector should take note of new Chain of Responsibility (CoR) advice posted by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

The advice is intended to be guidance for parties in the CoR on operating in the agricultural sector generally, and on managing risks associated with poorly maintained or unroadworthy heavy vehicles used in agriculture or seasonal work, such as harvest or snow activity.

Put simply, your primary duty of CoR is to do everything you can reasonably do to make your transport activities safe. You are still responsible even when you contract or subcontract your transport activities.

You can’t transfer your primary duty to another person or business or lessen your responsibility.

Guidance to parties operating in the agricultural sector is here while guidance about managing risks associated with maintaining heavy vehicles used in agricultural or seasonal work is here.
