Dear [Local Member],

[Please add some information about who you are, where you live and your business – i.e I’m Matt Smith from Matt Smith trucks in Warragul. We employ 12 people and have 12 trucks and 24 trailers, mainly carting milk from local farms]

Truck drivers deliver the food, medicines, and other supplies that Australians rely on each day.

On 1 July 2026, the Australian Government will re-introduce the Road User Charge (RUC). As a trucking operator, this charge will add an additional 32.4 cents for every litre of diesel I use.

With diesel prices still high owing to the conflict in the Middle East, this charge will impact my ability to work and will increase the cost of living.

[add any extra information you like about your business and how this will affect you, or remove these brackets]

While it is right and proper for truck drivers to pay for the upkeep of our roads, I am seeking your support to delay the re-introduction on the RUC for six months until 1 January 2027. Such a reduction will support my businesses, Australian customers and will mitigate the effects of high diesel prices.

Kind regards,

[Your name]
